Why this workshop exists
Policies matter—but in day-to-day behavior, peer norms win. The unspoken rules in break rooms, on radio channels, and between shifts shape more of your culture than the values poster on the wall.
This workshop pack gives you a simple, structured way to get those unspoken norms out in the open, keep what’s working, and rewrite what’s holding you back.
What’s inside the Culture & Norms Workshop Pack
You get everything you need to facilitate a 90–120 minute session with your team or leadership group. No design work or slide-building required.
1. Facilitator Guide (PDF)
Step-by-step instructions, timing, and sample language for each segment of the workshop— from opening frame to closing commitments.
2. Slide Deck (PDF / exportable to PowerPoint/Keynote)
Clean, minimal slides that walk the team through:
- Where we are now (current norms and behavior)
- Where we’re going (strategy, guest experience, or mission)
- What needs to change (specific norms to keep, shift, or stop)
- What we’re willing to hold each other to
3. Norms Mapping Worksheets
Printable pages for individuals and small groups to list:
- “How we really do things here” by area (frontline, back-of-house, leadership)
- Which norms help guest experience, safety, and team trust
- Which norms create friction, drama, or risk
4. Culture Story Prompts
Short prompts to surface concrete stories instead of abstract opinions: “Tell me about a moment when our culture was at its best/worst.”
5. Drafting New Norms Template
A simple template to turn discussion into 5–7 clear, behavior-based norms with examples of “what this looks like” on a normal day.
6. 30-Day Follow-Up Plan
A light-touch follow-up checklist to keep norms alive past the workshop: quick huddles, shout-outs, and what to do when someone slips.
How to run the workshop
- Clarify your “why.” Are you preparing for growth, fixing drift, or rebuilding trust after change?
- Pick the right group size. Works well with a single intact team (8–20 people) or a cross-functional leadership group.
- Use the slides + script. Follow the facilitator guide for opening framing and ground rules.
- Name current norms honestly. Use the worksheets to capture what’s really happening, not just what’s on paper.
- Draft and refine 5–7 norms. The template helps you move from vague aspirations to clear, observable behaviors.
- Lock in 30-day follow-through. Decide how you’ll remind, recognize, and redirect behavior using the follow-up plan.
